This album is Gianluca Codeghini's return to his origins, and the 14 tracks were recorded after long improvisation sessions which inspired each musician with unpredictable scores, visual stimuli and stories.
The starting point is "Coffee-table book" (2011), a collection of quatrains by Alessandro Broggi published by Transeuropa edizioni, and the poet actively collaborated in the composition of a few tracks and in the production phase.
The sequence of the tracks lines up the rhythmic structures to the digital cuts, noise ambients and arrangements for wind instruments. The resulting sounds are at times de-constructed, frenetic, surprising, raw but also melancholy, thanks to the experience of musicians like Paolo Romano (prepared bass ), Nicola di Caprio (drums, percussion and objects), Federica Maglioni (voice, bassoon, prepared piano), Rocco Lomonaco (guitar), Francesca Petrolo (trombone) and Gianluca Codeghini (electronics, sampling, trumpet).
The psychotic architecture of the pieces hints at something else, the sound event seems to belong to a bare, hypnotic type of jazz, at times enhanced by continuous variations, which evoke moments of flowing research from its roots in the industrial, minimal and afro sounds.
This electro-acoustic project is fierce but also ionic, to listen to again and again until you begin to doubt whether you listened to something else or whether you never really listened to it at all.
Questo album è da considerare un ritorno alle origini per Gianluca Codeghini, che ha realizzato queste 14 tracce dopo lunghe sedute di improvvisazione suggerendo ad ogni musicista partiture aleatorie, stimoli visivi e racconti verbali.
Il punto di partenza è "Coffee-table book" (2011), la raccolta di quartine di Alessandro Broggi edita da Transeuropa edizioni, e la collaborazione è andata anche oltre, lo stesso poeta è intervenuto anche a livello sonoro e compositivo in un paio di tracce, e nella produzione.
La sequenza dei brani è orientata nella direzione di una indagine che accosta parallelamente strutture ritmiche a tagli digitali, atmosfere noise ad arrangiamenti per strumenti a fiato. Le sonorità prodotte sono a volte destrutturate, frenetiche, spiazzanti, crude ma anche malinconiche, iò grazie all'esperienza di musicisti quali Paolo Romano (contrabbasso preparato), Nicola di Caprio (batteria, percussioni e oggetti), Federica Maglioni (voce, fagotto, piano preparato), Rocco Lomonaco (chitarra), Francesca Petrolo (trombone) e lo stesso Gianluca Codeghini (elettronica, sampling, tromba).
L'architettura psicotica dei brani ammicca sempre ad altro, l'evento sonoro sembra appartenere a un jazz scarno e ipnotico, in certi frangenti arricchito da continue variazioni, cosicché le suggestioni che ne derivano riportano alla memoria momenti di una ricerca fluida, che ha radici nei primordi dell’industrial, del minimal e dell’afro.
In conclusione, si tratta di un progetto elettroacustico spietato ma anche ironico, da ascoltare e riascoltare al punto tale da lasciare nella memoria il dubbio di aver ascoltato altro o di non aver ascoltato affatto.
